For those of us interested in social media, it's about finding a community of peers, making connections, learning from and supporting each other.

Social Media Breakfast Ottawa wants to help you do this by bringing you interesting, entertaining and timely speakers along with lots of real networking time over our (mostly) monthly breakfasts.

We'll keep the event to 90 minutes, focusing on providing an opportunity for attendees to meet each other. To spark conversation and discussion, we're pleased to welcome a guest speaker.

Who's speaking at Breakfast 19? Mark Blevis!

We've invited Mark Blevis, an Associate Vice President with Fleishman-Hillard's Ottawa office where he is helping to develop his firm's digital public affairs capability. Mark has consulted on digital communications and engagement as a brand strategy for companies in a variety of industries including high-tech, pharmaceutical, financial services, energy and publishing. As well, Mark has co-founded several successful online communities. Of course, Mark is also a long time supporter of our Breakfasts -- some of you will remember that he podcasted Breakfast 1 in June 2008

What's Mark going to talk about? The Digital Landscape in Canadian Federal Politics

In February, Mark published a report on the use of Twitter by Canadian Members of Parliament. As things go with Twitter -- and politics in our nation's capital ;) -- Mark's report received significant national media attention. Mark has continued his research, spending much of his summer poring over a database that he's built which identifies the websites, blogs and social media presence (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, LinkedIn) of our federal politicians and will soon issue an updated report with the House having returned for its Fall session. For Breakfast 19, Mark will preview his report findings with you, relating them to Fleishmann-Hillard's Digital Influence Index, a global study on digital influence that focused on the 7 countries (Canada is one) that collectively account for some 50% of the world's Internet usage.

Want to join us? Please register in the ticketing area above.

Can't wait for your breakfast fix? You can check out Mark's blog at markblevis.com and follow him on Twitter where he is @markblevis. Stay tuned for a launch of a new SMB Ottawa online community during the week of October 18th. You'll also find some of us on LinkedIn and Facebook. And we make sure to also cross-post announcements at the Social Media Breakfast blog. Our official event tag is smbottawa

SMBOttawa

SMBOttawa has been organized and hosted by Simon Chen, Rob Lane and Ryan Anderson since 2008. SMBOttawa's breakfast networking events are inspired and have evolved from the Social Media Breakfast concept started by Bryan Person in Boston:

". . . as an almost-monthly event where social media experts and newbies alike come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend."
